Take Over Basketball - Youth Basketball Programs
Founded by former professional women's basketball player Alex Ward-Hibbert, Take Over Basketball is committed to building a community of young girls and boys and empowering them through basketball. At Take Over your child will learn fundamental skills and join a welcoming and empowering community where kids can grow, learn, and thrive in the game of basketball!
Programs offered:
Skill Development (K-2nd Grade): Beginning-level basketball for young kids. Each practice will break kids into age and skill-appropriate groups and focus on the fundamental skills of ball handling, passing, shooting, triple threat, catching, and lay-ups. Each practice will provide a fun and encouraging environment for all players to learn and grow.
Skill Development (3rd-5th Grade): Beginner/intermediate-level for young and older kids still beginning basketball. Each practice will break kids into age and skill-appropriate groups while working on the fundamental skills of ball handling, passing, shooting, triple-threat, catching, lay-ups, and more advanced concepts. Each practice will provide a fun and encouraging environment for all players to learn and grow
Takeover Basketball Coaches
Alex Ward-Hibbert – Player Development Coach
Alex (Haley) Ward-Hibbert is a Libertyville native who led Libertyville High School to three straight NSC conference championships. Two of these seasons she earned All-Conference and All-Area Honors.
Following a standout high school career, Alex received multiple NCAA scholarship offers. Alex played three seasons at Minot State University before transferring to Lindenwood University for her Senior season where she led the Lions to the programs first ever Conference Championship semi-final.
Following her college career, Alex gained the attention of Professional teams in Europe. She accepted an offer to play in the WBBL (Womens British Basketball League) where she went on to win two Championships.
After her four-year professional playing career, Alex was offered the Head Womens Basketball Coaching position at the prestigious University of Oxford (England). She would lead The Blues to an impressive 17-3 record.
Alex and her Husband Matt founded and run Take Over Basketball where they specialise in player development for boys and girls where the work with players as young as 4 in their youth programs all the way through players who play professionally.
Coach Matt Hails from Nottingham, England.
He spent his high school career playing for The Derby Trailblazers and led them to two Conference Championships as well as three British National Championship Final Four appearances, winning the National Championship his senior year, while also being one of the leading scorers in the nation.
This lead to him being selected to represent his country and compete on an international level.

Following his college career, Matt gained the attention of Professional teams in Europe.
After spending time playing in Spain and Belgium he returned home to play professional in his home nation and competed in the National British League.
After a six-year professional playing career, Matt and his wife Coach Alex got married and they returned to Alex’s home town of Libertyville to begin their dream of starting a youth basketball development program that they named Take Over.
